Daily Round-up, 05/07/24: Monster Infrequent (and Epic) Drops from Atlantis Runs [CORRECTION: Drops were from 05/06/24]
I am going to do my best to catalog my daily Monster Infrequent (MI) farming exploits and the anecdotal observations I make along the way. I am going to fail more often than not in consistently posting my drops shortly after each gaming session, but I will do my best to catalog as frequently and consistently as possible. So, you will definitely see posts with an old date, just because I wasn't able to post in a timely manner.
So far, all of this is in Normal difficulty (you wanna talk about over-leveled?!). TBH I am not seeking to be the best TQ player with BiS gear, and beat on Legendary difficulty at the lowest level. I am in it for the hoarding and the rush that I get when an MI item drops! 😄 And if an Epic item (more than likely, a mace!) that I covet drops along the way, even bigger the rush. I don't care how many Dverger-Forged Edge Maces or Ichthian Whompers drop, I am excited for each single drop. I will list all Epic item drops that happen along the way as well.A few specific notes and observations:
- I have finished Atlantis. Even so, I started the day with little bearing of Atlantis' layout as a whole. I debated sticking with what is familiar, aka the farming routine that I had been doing for about 2 weeks. However, in reviewing Mace MIs on TQ Database, I knew that Potamois (found in Atlantis) can drop the Antediluvian Edge Mace as well as other Antediluvian (and Hydromancer's) MIs. So, I thought I should at least give Atlantis-farming a shot.
- Atlantis Antediluvian (/Hydromancer's) Farming route/areas:
- I noticed a high concentration of Potamoi monsters in the Atlantis Lower District (ALD); there is one spot where mobs spawn out of the watery ground, and that first time I noticed, many were wielding melee weapons, so I figured why not start here?
- I activated a Rebirth Fountain just past this spot, and I work backwards all the way through a good part of the Atlantis Wilderness.
- Along this path, there are several patches of Potamoi monsters, including 2 Natural Caves and a few encampments (there is a Potamoi hero at an encampment, though can't say that he dropped an MI for me). You can either run past the various Salamander and Clay Men monsters or kill them as collateral damage. They will follow you for a decent ways, so I decided that I would just kill the Salamanders b/c they also deal decent damage. I run from Clay Men as much as possible b/c they can slow you.
- TQ Database note: For many MIs, TQ DB will only list hero monsters in the Loot Tables. While it may be true that these heroes have the single highest % drop rate for that respective item, farming them specifically will sometimes subject you to their spawning whims. My experience is that it is more rewarding to seek out that specific monster type (in my case, it is the Potamois) and try to find the highest concentrations. While each individual monster's drop rate may be microscopic, you significantly up your chances by seeking volume (I guess, I favor quantity over quality?).
Also, based on the listed Loot Tables, specific monster types might even be completely excluded. My single example is the drop of a Sprig mace from a lowly mushroom monster in the Mushroom Cave (sorry, don't have the official name handy) which is a quick, winding route southeast of the Dark Lands portal. The TQ DB Loot Table lists 2-3 Anteok hero monsters, so I had no idea that a mushroom could drop one. But if you look closely, all of these mushroom baddies wield maces, so it makes sense that they could possibly drop a mace MI. To-date, I had given up on a Sprig drop b/c the Anteok-farming in the Ixian Woods/Medea's Grove/edge of Sonoris was fruitless and is damn inefficient due to low density of Anteoks and lots of trash mob-noise. - I also did one farming run through my typical Gadir Necropolis-Gaulos Outskirts-Coral Caves-Kuapangr-Dark Lands-Asgard route; I will try to add those MI drops soon.
